The challenge

Every step of a per-minute car-sharing service runs in software, in real time: sign-up and identity verification, finding, booking and unlocking cars, pricing the rental, payment and invoicing, and tracking the fleet, charging and servicing.

The system has to stay in constant contact with the cars’ on-board units, be available around the clock, and comply with card-payment and electronic-invoicing regulations.

What we delivered

  • Back office. A business system of close to 230 modules: fleet management on a live map (service and parking zones, charging stations and charging status), vehicle and on-board unit master data, a dispatch console, service rentals, damage handling and car cleaning; invoicing and accounting connected to the Hungarian tax authority (NAV), contract management, HR, financial reporting and workflow-driven case handling.
  • Mobile app. A Flutter app for iOS and Android (replacing the earlier Ionic app in 2021): finding cars on the map, booking and unlocking, payment, online identity verification and push notifications.
  • Telematics. An in-house OBU server and communication protocol for the cars’ on-board units; data reaches the business systems through a message queue.
  • Web. The public website and customer portal, the mobile app’s API and payment gateway handling, plus a partner portal for contract rentals and corporate orders.
  • Microservices. Mobile gateway, payment, pricing, data versioning and further services on TypeScript and Java, with event-driven data synchronisation.
  • Documents. Electronic signing of PDF documents with timestamps.
  • Platform and operations. Among the first to move to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Kubernetes: a cloud platform with development, test and production environments; central identity and access management, monitoring.
